Methods of Assessment for Adult ADHD There are various methods for assessing adults who have ADHD Some of these methods include the MMPI2RF testing the NAT EEG test and the Wender Utah Rating Scale Each test is used in different ways to determine the symptoms of ADHD MMPI2RF The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory2Restructured Form MMPI2RF is a test that assesses adult ADHD symptoms It is utilized in a variety of settings including hospitals correctional facilities and psychopathology clinics The MMPI2RF is a scoring method and technical guideline It is designed to provide reliable accuracy in classifying adult ADHD symptoms This test was created in the 1930s and has been modified several times to improve its accuracy The test was originally an online selfreport form It was later discovered that the test was too transparent and that the tests participants could easily identify the intent of the tests creator In the 1970s the test was extended to include clinical scales It was also changed to reflect the diversity of cultures The MMPI2RF includes 42 major scales Each item consists of several questions that test a psychological process For instance an item could measure the persons reaction to stress or a particular situation Other tests can be used to determine if a symptom is an exaggerated appearance if it is present at a specific time of the week or is absent Symptom validity tests are designed to identify deliberate overreporting or deception They also seek to determine the presence of fixed or random responses These tests are important when using the MMPI2RF test for an assessment of adult ADHD While symptom validity tests can be helpful in assessing the validity of the MMPI2RF a variety studies have found that they do not offer sufficient accuracy for classification Numerous studies have proven that ADHD symptoms and ACI are not linked in any significant way The studies involved a set of patients who reported selfreported ADHD symptoms and were given the CAT A as well as the MMPI2RF The results were then compared against an unreliable ADHD study group Using a small sample size and a small sample size a difference in results between the two groups did not exist A comparison of classes of comorbidity of psychiatric diagnoses did not reveal any significant increase in the prevalence of cooccurring psychiatric diagnoses within the inattentive group Early studies on the CII revealed that it was more susceptible to fake or fake ADHD However these findings were limited to a small subset of patients who reported excessively Wender Utah ADHD Rating Scale The Wender Utah Rating Scale WURS is a selfreport measure that is used to measure adult ADHD This scale is used to evaluate the symptoms of adult ADHD that include hyperactivity difficulty unwinding impulsivity and low social skills It has high diagnostic and predictive abilities as well as high testretest reliability The WURS was created after an analysis conducted by Ward Wender and Reimherr in 1993 Their goal was to create an assessment that could help determine whether ADHD may be a manifestation dysfunctional personality traits More than 30 papers have been published since then on the psychometrics of and the use of the WURS A variety of studies have studied the scales discriminant and predictive properties They discovered that the WURS has high discriminant power and a broad spectrum of symptom categories For example the WURS25 score has correctly identified 96 healthy controls and 86 adults suffering from ADHD In addition it is internally consistent This was demonstrated through the study of the factor structure of this scale It is vital to note that the WURS25 selfreport scale doesnt measure hyperactivity There are many other scales that are available such as the Brown ADD Rating Scale or the Connors Adult ADHD Rating Scale Although the WURS25 is a great choice for screening children it has been reported to misclassify half of adults Therefore it should be used with caution It is essential to consider variables like gender and age when conducting a clinical evaluation Further investigation is required if a patient scores more than four points The use of a rating scale may help in identifying ADHD but it should be accompanied by a thorough diagnostic interview These interviews may also comprise the list of comorbidities functional disability measures and psychopathological syndrome scores Two analyses were performed to measure the discriminantpredictive properties of WURS25 One was using the varimax rotation method to find the number of factors The other method was to calculate the area under curve In comparison to the WURS25 the WURS25 has a more specific factor structure Neuropsychiatric EEGBased Assessment Aid NEBAS System A mature ADHD assessment system that uses a Neuropsychiatric EEG Based Assessment Aid NEBAS is a powerful difference in identifying this neurodevelopmental disorder It is a diagnostic tool that employs an electroencephalogram EEG to assess the betatheta ratio TBR and also to assist interpret the results The NEBA has been approved by the FDA and is recommended for people aged between six and seventeen years old As part of the examination the doctor will conduct an extensive psychological and physical testing They will also employ different symptoms scales and other diagnostic tests to determine the patients medical condition Quantitative EEG can be used for psychiatry as well as to treat mental disorders One of the benefits of this method is that it does not expose the patient to radiation Its diagnostic ability is limited by its inability interpret and the lack of reliable evidence A NEBA report can confirm the diagnosis or recommend additional tests to improve treatment Similar to fMRI images that have clearly visible features are easily applied Nonetheless it requires patients to work at a minimum However wearable devices provide an unprecedented access to the physiological data This article will examine the hardware and software needed to design and implement an effective NEBA There are numerous other methods to diagnose and treat ADHD However a standard EEGbased diagnosis of ADHD has been difficult to come by Therefore researchers have been looking for new methods of measuring that can improve the diagnosis and treatment of this disorder more accurate and efficient There are no SoCs systemsonchip that are able to diagnose ADHD While Iam Psychiatry is the case in the near future the combination of current and future developments in the field has created the need for the development of a solution Systemsonchip are a key component in the development of EEG therapeutic systems They are small and compact and therefore can be integrated into mobile or wearable devices A wearable device is also possible which could give access to large amounts of data that could assist in improving therapy Apart from the NEBA a wearable device can track physical health mental health as well as other aspects of daily life These devices can be powered with batteries which makes them a mobile solution Test NATE EEG The Neuropsychiatric ElectroencephalographBased ADHD Assessment Aid NEBA is an FDA approved electroencephalographbased tool for diagnosing adults with ADHD It is employed in conjunction with a clinicians clinic evaluation A NEBA report provides a doctor with a diagnosis as well as recommendations for further tests In young adults suffering from ADHD the power decreases is observed in the alpha band and the power increases in the slower oscillatory frequency bands This suggests that ADHD symptoms could have a temporal component Previous studies have revealed that ADHD adolescents and children have high power in the beta and theta bands However its not clear if ADHD adults share the same physiological characteristics A study of the power spectra of EEGs of adults with ADHD and healthy controls was conducted For each frequency band relative power was calculated for both eyesclosed or eyesopen conditions To identify outliers that could be a cause a modified thompsontau procedure was employed The study revealed that ADHD sufferers exhibit distinct behavioral characteristics regardless of their specific diagnosis While the study does not demonstrate ADHD to be causally related to behavior it does support the findings of Dr Rosemary Tannocks Canada Research Chair for Adult ADHD Occipital electrodes showed less variance in the fast oscillatory band However the central electrode showed less variation in this band These results suggest that ADHD and the control group show a large difference in the power of oscillation In adulthood thetabeta ratio and thetaalpha ration showed greater distinctions between groups than those in the younger group Adult ADHD was related to a higher concentration of thetabeta The results of the study are supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research However further research is required to better understand the development patterns of these biomarkers as well as to determine their diagnostic specificity ADHD is an omission or delay in the development of the neural system The clinical phenotypic symptoms are caused by a variety of causes that include environmental genetic and nongenetic The extent to which these variables contribute to the clinical dominant outcome of ADHD is unknown
